2008 in Review

Looking back at 2008 I must say that I am glad it is over. This has been a year of many losses for our family. I lost a Grandfather, a faithful dog named Copper, and our ability to have children. I must say that there has been little positive but I keep putting my faith and hope in God. The main theme that I have learned this year is that God is in control...not me, and I have no business being left in control. So as we say good-bye to 2008 I make it a goal to keep in mind the lessons learned this past year. God bless.
This is one of the last pictures taken of Copper. We had to put him down on Christmas Eve. He was such a good dog and brought us lots of happiness.

Christmas pics

Here is a few pics Briana and I took on our "date" at Grove Park Inn. We went and saw the ginger bread houses then ate at the sunset terrace....

Briana and Kenzie also went to see the Nutcracker while I spent the evening adding logs to the fire.

Luckily it has not been too cold yet this year, but of course if it's not 90 degrees in the house, Briana is cold! As you can see we had to put the tree in front of the front door 1. because of the stove and 2. the tree is too big for anywhere else in the house! Anyway, we did get the decorations up and lights strung outside, even though it looks like Christmas has thrown up all over the house. Oh well it only comes once a year!

Remember our troops this Christmas

“THE SOLDIERSNIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS”(this version)By Major Bruce W. Lovely
(With apologies to Clement Moore who first wrote this story for his children in 1822)
Twas the night before Christmas, he lived all aloneIn a one bedroom house made of plaster & stone.I had come down the chimney with presents to giveAnd to see just who in this home did live.I looked all about a strange sight I did see,No tinsel, no presents, not even a tree.No stocking by the fire, just boots filled with sand,On the wall hung pictures of far distant lands. With medals and badges, awards of all kindA sober thought came through my mind. For this house was different, so dark and dreary,I knew I had found the home of a soldier, once I could see clearly.I heard stories about them, I had to see moreSo I walked down the hall and pushed open the door. And there he lay sleeping silent alone,Curled up on the floor in his one bedroom home. His face so gentle, his room in such disorder,Not how I pictured a United States soldier. Was this the hero of whom I’d just read?Curled up in his poncho, a floor for his bed?His head was clean shaven, his weathered face tan,I soon understood this was more then a man.For I realized the families that I saw that nightOwed their lives to these men who were willing to fight.Soon ‘round the world, the children would play,And grownups would celebrate on a bright Christmas day. They all enjoyed freedom each month of the day,Because of soldiers like this one lying here.I couldn’t help wonder how many lay aloneOn a cold Christmas Eve in a land far from home.Just the very thought brought a tear to my eye,I dropped to my knees and started to cry.The solder awakened and I heard a rough voice,“Santa don’t cry, this life is my choice;I fight for freedom, I don’t ask for more,My life is my God, my country, my Corps.”With that he rolled over and drifted off into sleep,I couldn’t control it, I continued to weep.I watched him for hours, so silent and still,I noticed he shivered from the cold night’s chill. So I took off my jacket, the one made of red,And I covered this Soldier from his toes to his head. And I put on his T-shirt of gray and black,With an eagle and an Army patch embroidered on back. And although it barely fit me, I began to swell with pride,And for a shining moment, I was United States Army deep inside.I didn’t want to leave him on that cold dark night,This guardian of honor so willing to fight. Then the soldier rolled over, whispered with a voice so clean and pure,“Carry on Santa, it’s Christmas day, all is secure.”One look at my watch, and I knew he was right,Merry Christmas my friend, and to all a good night!---God bless and keep safe all our fighting men and women and all our uniformed services. It's not fun being alone and thousands of miles away from home during the holidays. So say a prayer for all those who are keeping watch this Christmas. God bless.

I guess everyone has to eat

Last night I saw the funniest thing. As I was sitting in the Taco Bell parking lot eating my supper I saw a Pizza Hut delivery man pull into the parking lot. I assumed that he was calling someone for directions because he sat there for a few minutes talking on the phone. To my surprise he went through the drive thru and placed an order. I guess that he was not in the mood for pizza. My only regret is that I could not get a picture of this event.

Third day and Brandon Heath concert

Mike and I got backstage passes to see Third Day and Brandon Heath concert at the civic center last night. We had a blast. We got to meet and talk with both band members and watch a great show! I spent the night shooting pics of course, but I talked with the drummer for Brandon Heath and wants me to e-mail him some of the pictures. So here is a few of the shots....

Me and Jon-Paul Tally the drummer for Brandon Heath

Met Joe Moralez (on keyboard)

Talked with Brandon backstage, very nice group of guys awesome sound too.

Next was Third Day they put on a great show and I got to talk with them backstage before the show. They are a genuine group of guys. Mac (the singer) gave his testimony on stage and played a couple of songs down amongst the crowd.

Cashiers and Highlands trip

Today we loaded the dogs and headed to Cashiers and Highlands with stops at Whitewater Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, Dry Falls (which was closed), and Cashiers Sliding Rock. The weather was great and the colors were in full bloom! Along the way to Whitewater Falls we almost ran over a bobcat that decided to cross the road just as we were coming down the mountain. Dipstick of course had to add her two cents into the situation by barking her head off as we flew past it!
